Sooooo, it seems like there is a new bandwagon for the fashion world to jump on. French Marie Claire's April issue contains editorials and spreads that have been not been retouched. And their American version contains a Jessica Simpson cover that was not retouched (above photo courtesy of The Cut). So this basically means that they take super thin models, spend 10 hours on makeup and 10 hours on hair and then take a picture and want you to think that its natural and should make you feel good about yourself. While I do compliment what they are trying to do - why not take it one step further? Why not use the attractive girl-next-door looking woman that you see everyday on the street?
In fact, Sunny Fong used an average sized, middle aged woman that he found on Craigslist as one of the central models in his VAWK F/W 2010 show. It was great! People LOVED it and he has received tons of positive PR and media attention for it. I say kudos to Sunny Fong and kudos to Marie Claire........lets hope this starts a movement for real women, real beauty and positive body image.
