Lessons in Fashion from Carrie Bradshaw

As a tribute to the Honourable Sarah Jessica Parker being in Toronto yesterday evening, I feel in the mood to make my first fashionable post about lessons that we can learn about fashion from the great Carrie Bradshaw.

1. Wear something sentimental! Carrie was often seen wearing the "Carrie" necklace that was bought with her best friends in the park and really held no monetary value. Whether your sentimental item is the Hermes scarf your boyfriend bought you for your birthday or a plastic ring your best friend and you share - wear it. It will make you feel good about yourself and really, that's all that matters.

2. Experiment! Hey, maybe we all can't pull off a midriff baring shirt or a ready-to-wear tutu but at least we can say that Carrie had some character. Don't be part of the "cookie-cutter culture", always put your own twist on an outfit. And don't forget, the great philosopher Plato once said, "Boring wardrobe, boring life."...........or he should have.

3. Wear colour! Ms. Bradshaw was never one to be a wallflower. Add some colour and some spice to your ensemble. While I can appreciate that you may work in a more conservative environment or are apprehensive - start small. Add a bright coloured shirt to your black suit. Add a red necklace to a black and white outfit, even better, add red shoes! Trust me, you will feel brighter and I (who has to look at you in the office all day) will feel brighter as well.

Finally - no matter what you wear - wear it with conviction! If you feel good and confident about yourself...than you've never looked better.
